I enjoyed the firsts cds of that band, in spite of the different musical orientations, but with this new cd, I really feel more that Catawompus is still looking for his real musical way. The way they play is good, music is fine to listen to, but there are no more great musical creations that let us think they are one of the best southern new generation. However, it is pleasant to listen to songs such as "Mean Woman Blues", "Veins", or "Bella Donna". It looks a little bit more in a classical American Rock n' Roll than in a Southern Rock style, like on the song "The Doctor" that could have been on the 80's record "Survivors" for instance. So it is a nice record, but really far from the wonderful "Well, it's about Time" and even far from the country "The Slam Bam". John Molet |

With the release of this new album, their second one, Catawompus is a bit surprising. The music is not bad at all, but the musical direction they took is real far from their first album. The hard driving blues and its greasy guitars is not there any more, but the atmospheres are more of country music and nashville sound. But don't get me wrong, this is a nice album, which confirms Catawompus is still one of the best american bands from this new southern generation. They just have to find a musical identity, but as the musicians are really great, you can trust them, they'll make it. John Molet |

With this new young band from Nashville, it's a bit different from bands such as Mississippi Sludge, Drivin & Cryin, and Brother Cane which play a heavier music. They certainly can play it this way, but they choose to explore one of the most important things in southern rock music, the dual harmony on guitars, the chorus and vocal harmonies and last but not least, the rock'n roll spirit. Perfect , great job. We could recently read they consider themselves much more closer from the 70's bands (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Outlaws, 38Special) than today's ones with their heavier sound. John Molet |
