Here comes the second DVD this year for Lynyrd Skynyrd, even if the first one, released with "Vicious cyle limited edition" won't stay a long time in my memory. Well, I won't go deeper indetails ! At least, here, we have a live recording. The event was recording back in july 2003 on the stage Lynyrd SKynyrd first re-unite, dixit Johnny Van Zant himself. It's been, then, broadcasted last september as a pay-per-view program in the USA, and it's now officially as a DVD. Christmas times is a good period for a DVD release.....The setlist is a bit different from what LYnyrd usually plays on stage : we have a version of "Mississipi kid" with Rickey Medlocke on mandolin and Hughie Thomasson on acoustic guitar ; Lynyrd plays a few titles with a horn section which adds some swing, just like they did back in '87 during the Tribute tour ; we also have some exceptional with a string section for a few titles ("Tuesday's gone", "The way", "Free bird"), which brings a bit of sweetness and melancholy to these songs. And other thing can be observed with the background vocals, it's not only Carol Chase and Dale Krantz-Rossington singing, but also Rickey Medlocke ("Pick'em up", "Call me the breeze"), Hughie Thomasson ("Workin'") and Ean Evans ("Red, white & blue"). There are also two touching moments : the first one is the duet between Ronnie and Johnny on "Travellin' man", and the second one is "Simple man" dedicated to Leon Wilkeson. Unfortunately, the bonus tracks are not really interesting but at least these are two hours of joy and happyness !

Released as a "limited edition", this new album from Lynyrd Skynyrd also contains a DVD mainly recorded during their last tour in Europe last june. No need to talk about the good critics the album received even if there are still some people still fing something unpleasant ! Well, to me, and after listening to it for the last three months, I admit they don't have the approach they had in the seventies, but ther're still a great act in rock'n roll music and a legend for the american music. The DVD is mainly based on the tribute, by Lynyrd Skynyrd, to the ones who fought for their freedom. With "Red, white and blue" as a musical background, you'll see many images telling the Lynyrd thought. This clip mainly based on the respect the band has for the boys can be appreciated. You also have interviews from the band members recorded during their show on a US base in Germany. Tehre's also some "already seen" footage from the original lineup as a respect for the lost ones, Ronnie, Dean, Steve, Cassie, Allan and Leon. I'ld have liked to get some live footage....we'll have to wait till they release the recorded show in Nashville from last july. One more thing, if you don't understand english, you'll really miss something. At least, there are real nice footage !

Ha !! We 've been waiting for such a long time !! It's always the same with Lynyrd Skynyrd, we so much want to hear (and see them), that we wanna get their latest release even before the recording sessions are over (I'm sure many fans know what I mean). Well, we finally got the promo release here at the office and as I'm listening to it for the very first time, I'm gonna give you ly thoughts. First, we had to admit, the actual Lynyrd doesn't play the same music they played in the seventies or even in the early nineties (Lynyrd Skynyrd 91 or The last rebel). Once you understand taht, I really believe you still can appreciate the greatest band of the southern rock history. ANd it's really what I deeply feel. Of course, as many fans, my musical heart is closer to the albums "Second helping", "Street survivors" or even "The last rebel", but don't forget that if Lynyrd SKynyrd is still there, it's mainly because they knew how to evolve. Even while you listen to this brand new album, you hear some details which don't sound familiar to Lynyrd Skynyrd, I just really believe it's kind of a miracle to get them. I deeply hope they'll get all the respect and admiration they surely deserve. So, thanks Gary, Billy, Johnny, and everyone in the band, Sweet Mama and God bless Lynyrd SKynyrd.
