The first title « Out in the Rain » tells
us that we are going to have a « special » cd. This song
could have been a Govt Mule song (voice, slide guitar). The other
songs on this cd are a melting pot with different influences : soul,
jazz, blues-rock, but maybe it is not the best for the southern music
fans that we are. However songs are great, heavy, but for Texas Blues
fans (like in « Ill never knew » or in «Bring
you down »). The groove side of this cd, new generation like Sunset
Heights, is so nice that we do appreciate such a record.

"Southern rock in the rising sun country" could be the next Steven Spielberg 's movie !!!No, of coursen this is just a joke !!! Savoy Truffle gets all the ingredients of this music, southern rock, playing it real well. Pretty well known in the USA, they've already played Los Angeles, San Francisco, and more recently, they played in Atlanta in front of 20 000 people. As usual, in France, nobody heard of them and it's such a shame, this band has to be known and heard everywhere by fans of bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gov't Mule, Allman Brothers Band, among others. Savoy Truffle released three albums. The first one "To the higher ground", where you can easily hear influences from Gov't Mule and Warren Haynes. The guitar parts, for a southern rock fan, are really nice ("Nothing at all" or "Sanctuary") . They released a second album, back in '99, which to me, was not as interesting as was the first one. But their last relesae, the live album, "Live on our Way", is such a great album. They've got so much energy on stage ! From the first track, "Hignway man", a pure rock'n roll song made in Japan, you know what you're going to listen, great music. So if you a rock'n roll fan, or a southern rock fan, you've got to listen to this band. If you wanna hear them in Europe, next june, they'll perform at the Sweden Rock Festival, not that bad after their opening, in Osaka, Japan, for Gov't Mule. John Molet |

We're going to be used of them, as Savoy Truffle is now one of the greatest acts in southern blues rock of this new centure. Their last release, the superb live album "Live on your Way" let us think we got here one hell of a band. They didn't loose their time, as our japanese are coming out wsith a brand new studio album, "Take to the Sky and Fly". And this last album is surely a great one showing us their main influences, Gov't Mule and the Allman Brothers Band. We'll sure would like to hear that kind of music much more often, and from some of the main acts in southern rock music who seem to sometimes loose their inspiration (I won't name anyone here !). So the southern fever is really everywhere on this album, the slide work from Toshihiro Sumitomo is just great and confirms us he's such a great slide picker (listen to him on "Feel So Bad" or "Brother to Brother").. And this great vocals from Monji Kadowaki, with all his feelings is also a great part of their music. To me, this great band, Savoy Truffle, perfectly represents the future of today's southern rock music. I'm going back to hear one more time this great blues, "Why Live for dying", the kind of blues I'ld like to hear more often !! And I don't care if the music's too loud for the neighborhood !!!!!
