This first album from the Seattle gang, Smokni' Gun, released in '97 shows us a great blues, blues-rock combo. Only a few covers have been recorded for this release : a great great version of "A Fool For Your Stockings" from ZZ Top, and a very energetic version of " Roadhouse Blues" from the Doors (with twin guitar parts). Their originals are strong songs with great guitar work and great arrangements.
As says the album title, only covers have been recorded for this second release. It first starts with two great versions of "Don't want you no more" and "It's not my cross to bear" from the Allman Brothers Band. Then, we have covers from Clapton, Gary Moore, B.B.King ( and a great version of the famous "The thrill is gone"), Stevie Ray Vaughan, among others. Let's note one of the nicest versions I've never heard of "I still got the blues" from Gary Moore where Brad Spear adds his personal feeling while keeping the always melodic approach of Gary Moore.
This third album from Smokin' gun, is a live album recorded in their hometown of Seattle and presents a mix of covers and originals. And what versions ! Great versions of "Fool for your stocking's", "One way out" and "La grange". Let's note a great complicity and complementarity between the two guitar players. For sure, Smokin' Gun is a one kind of a band ! Great job guys ! Hats off !
