Discovering an Allman Brothers cover band is not that easy, as there are not so many around. But you find one, and if this one is a great band, we have to talk about it. Whipping Post, coming out from Norway, is one of these great bands. This live album was released back in 2000, and it had to be mentioned as it so beautiful to hear. You'll find some of the greatest classics from the Allman Brothers Band, but unlike the traditional cover bands, they don't cover their "masters" note for note, they play the songs their own way. For sure, the improvisations are influenced, mostly by Dickey Betts, but each one develops his own playing. I must confess the result is more than expected. Whipping Post is certainly one of the greatest cover bands I've had the chance to hear for such a long time. Dominique Turgot |
