GOV'T MULE
PARIS (LE TRABENDO 6-4-2005)

So, who could have think that Warren Haynes band comes in Paris during this mini European tour ? When they announced such a show, many people were surprised because they wanted first to play at the Boule Noire (300 places), and, because of the good tickets sales, they went to the Trabendo (700 places), that explains why people that organize tours in France don't really know about the audiences for Southern Rock bands.
However we won't change French habits and we just have to keep what we can get, and we were lucky on this April the 6th. It's rare to have such a guitar master as Warren Haynes to come and play in a small crowded concert place in Paris, and all the audience was really happy as soon as Warren began to play his first notes. As they use to do on that tour,
Gov't Mule played a two-set show, and began with "Blindman in the Dark" : good vibrations in the audience ! Warren seems happy to play in Paris, and many fans sing "Happy Birthday to You" (because he is 45 today !) and he seems to enjoy the way the fans sing. Next comes "Thorazine Shuffle" and we can see and appreciate the other musicians. First, the great Matt Abts, Warren friend and wonderful drummer. It's hard to believe how close are the guitarist and the drummer, and how great are Andy Hess (Bass) and Danny Louis (keyboards) too ! So you can figure what is the musical level of the band !

We have to say that Gov't Mule changes everyday the set list, and I was a little bit disappointed because in Milan the day before, the audience has got "Bad Little Doggie", "Soulshine", "Maybe I'm a Leo", "30 Days in the Hole", "Fallen Down" etc…so you can tell me that we've had a great "Red House", but I should have enjoyed one or two songs they played in Milan. So maybe next time… because as Warren enjoyed to play in Europe, it seems that he'd like to come back soon here.. and we won't complain about it !!
